For many women our forties are a wonderful time in life! We have devoted our twenties and thirties to raising a young family and/or preparing for our future careers. Now it's our time to shine and we deserve it! This is also a time when perimenopause causes changes to our hormones. During perimenopause, hormone levels fluctuate and cause a myriad of symptoms both mental and physical.
Mentally, some symptoms we experience include episodes of brain fog, elevated levels of stress, mood fluctuations, and self esteem and body image concerns. Physically, new muscular aches and a longer recovery time after strenuous activity can often be a result of Estrogen depletion. Estrogen is a hormone that is strongly associated with joint health. It is a natural anti inflammatory hormone and contributes to cushioning our joints and maintaining cartilage flexibility.
Skin changes are also seen during perimenopause. Loss of volume, dullness, dryness, and fine lines are frequently reported concerns. These new changes can be overwhelming! Here is a general guide to achieving your best skin through a great skin care routine:
Daytime
1) Cleanse the skin with a gentle cream based cleanser. This step helps cleanse gently while protecting the skin barrier, preventing stripping of the skin, and promoting its hydration and luster.
2) Apply a good serum that will boost brightness, hydrate/plump the skin, smooth away fine lines, and diminish age related skin damage. Some really good ingredients to help in this process include Peptides, Vitamin C, Kojic Acid, AHAs, and Ceramides.
3) Apply a good daytime moisturizer before makeup. One that is not too thick but one that hydrates and protects against free radicals!

Evening
